Welcome to the Website of the Willis L. Haenke Historical Foundation.

We aim to promote an awareness of the history of coal mining in the Ipswich region, Queensland, Australia.

Coal mining was undertaken in this area even before "Ipswich" became a municipality in 1860. Gradually we are losing more and more people who have been involved in coal mining, or who have information regarding it. The Foundation is attempting to preserve as much of this history as possible, and therby promote the understanding of where the Ipswich area has come from and what Ipswich has been through.
